This is the second lesson in Front Row's free unit on Emotions and Self-Awareness. You can find all of the resources you need to teach where feelings come from in this post, and you can check out the entire unit here!

Lesson Objective: Students will understand the basic science behind feelings and what causes feelings and emotions to happen.

Central Question: Where do emotions come from, and how do they work?

Journal Prompt: Pick an emotion and describe a time you felt it. What caused you to feel this way? How did you show the emotion?

Day 1 Activity: “How Do Emotions Work?” Article. 25 minutes.

Students read a scientific article about emotions and the brain, and answer discussion questions.

Day 2 Activity: Vocabulary Models. 20 minutes.

Students create “Frayer” style models for 2-3 identified emotions.
